            At Sunset

I sit and watch the evening sky,
And, silently, I wonder why,
The radiant sun just seems to die...
At sunset.

The morning is a distant star,
A voice that beckons from afar,
Beyond this hour that shadows mar...
At sunset.

The time has passed, for sunlit schemes,
For fond desires, and fervent dreams;
All hope is swallowed up, it seems...
At sunset.

And, yet, as evening draws toward night,
A chariot, in its timeless flight,
There's peace within the fading light...
At sunset.

For, in this quiet hour, I find
A chance to leave my cares behind,
And take a stroll within my mind...
At sunset.

And, so, I will enjoy this time,
When heaven and earth so oft combine,
To make, of life, a lovely rhyme...
At sunset.

Within your words a quilting warmth,
in day where sun is a promise, broken,
and clouds caress in chilling clasp
this heart that dreams
of your sunset.

Beautiful writing, Troy...

Thanks to all of you, for your kind words!

Denise - thank you so much!  I guess my love of nature really comes out in my poetry.  BTW, kudos on your correct answer to "Hip, Hip, Hippie..." in Q & A.  You go, girl!

Pepper - thanks!  The truly "stunning" thing was the incredible sunset that was the inspiration for this poem.  We have some really pretty ones, here in Utah.

Claire - WOW!  I am honored that you shared your gift, in response to my poem.  Sounds like things are a little rocky for you, though - I hope they get better, soon!

Again, thank you all for responding!

Excellent writing.....will now look at sunsets in a different light (so to speak)
Liked the rhyme used in this and the layout.
Nice work.

Thanks to all of you!

Seymour and Danny - You two were fellow "nominees" for the "Hip, Hip, Hippie..." post.  Does that make us brothers?  LOL!
On the serious side, I appreciate your comments more than I can say.  You are both talented poets, so your praise means a lot!

Dawn Eclipse - thank you!  Sunset is one of my favorite times of day - sunrise being the other one.  Some of my best poetry has been written at these two times.

Thanks again to all of you for your support!

Troy~
A vivid display.
I also find both the sunrise and the sunset to be inspirational.
This is lovely.

Mike - thank you kindly!

Marge - aside from the beauty of the sunrise and the sunset, I think the reason that they inspire me so much is the continuity.  The sunrise is a new beginning - a fresh start.  Sunset is a time for reflecting on what I have accomplished during the day.  And, it's not really an ending, because it starts the cycle all over again in a few hours.

Again, thanks to all of you for responding!

Openings and closings are perfect new beginnings...like sunset and sunrise...they turn a page with light and dark and complete the circle of the day..  Your poem is beautiful!

Martie - so true!  The Great Mandela (Wheel of Life) keeps turning - moving over rocky ground, and smooth - but always moving onward.  So glad you enjoyed this poem!

ESP - thank you so much!  And, I also must credit Nan - she let me use her "bird at sunset" gif to decorate this poem.

Troy,
Thank you for the sunset.  Very nice and well written as usual.  It is a wonderful sight and should be enjoyed as much as possible.  Just breathtaking to watch it over the water.  Great writing!!
