'neath a rose of fairest white
with fallen petals underfoot
two lovers met one night
of passioned kisses soon partook

hand to heart, a quiet pledge
beheld by fate, on clandestine eve
tho' ne'er more earnest words he pled
"Fair maid, I'll leave not thee."

clutching his palm unto her breast
gently wiping their tears away
"By your love I am truly bles't"
was all that she could say

true love, cruel fate would soon plunder
her father knew their lover's masquerade
and soon had rent their lives asunder
her love felt he had been betrayed

he left with morn's pale dawn
without him life was death she found
her love for life from her drawn
and soon she fell on mossy ground

and dreampt of happier times
her sleep stretched from year to year
and soon her father wept for his crime
his life slipping past in crystal tears

for he had stolen her smile, as if a thief
yet was powerless fate to change
but somewhere deep with-in lingered peace
after cruel emotions spent their range

her father cried for his fastest steed
and mounted fierce and quick
"Find her love!", was his decree
"My daughter's fallen sick!"

through mountain, meadow, hill and dale
a frenzied search o'ertook the land
meanwhile she grew ever pale
as sorrow pervaded the land

her love lived on a mountain high
far from life's biting pain
near where he could touch the sky
and taste the soft cool rain

he never forgot his maiden fair
the rain, her kisses upon his lips
each night, in dreams, he stroked her golden hair
and drank her beauty in gentle sips

unwillingly, yet deep in his heart
her voice lingered ever still
no time or fate will keep apart
ev'n if mortal self were killed

her father stopped near a cottage dim
and called "Come sir I need thee now,
my daughter's life grows ever thin
know this, sir, my pledge my vow."

"I'll hold no harm to thee
if thou but comest to her side,
and let her soul fly free.
I swear by these words I will abide!"

morn and night passed away
and her heart beat gentle still
"Oh what can be the delay!"
was her father's anxious trill

one day as the sun awoke
and light fell soft upon her face
her lover's name she bespoke
a soon a hush fell o'er the place

murmers shook the crowd
as her eyes beheld her father's smile
and then she laughed aloud
"Awake am I, it's been awhile!"

"Yet, where's my one true love?"
Upon hearing this, to his knee fell
and once more his pledge he troth
"I've braved earth and sky and hell

to be once more by your side.
I'll ne'er leave again, this I swear,
it was as if my heart had died.
My life is yours to share,

I want naught in life but thee."
she gazed upon her handsome one
"My life to you I bequeath."
and in those simple words, her life had just begun

Thanks guys for your replies
I struggle with rhyming so this was a stretch for me....

Ohhh and Philip...it's real life! I am stuck in the 2000's when I belong in medieval times.

Wow..You're so good at those fairy tales.   I was captivated of course.

Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau"
