I finally made the paper,
In my hometown, yesterday.
The story said, Tomorrow-
That they’d put me away.

Condemned, and sent to prison
Almost twenty years ago.
Why rub the salt in Mama’s wound?
As if she didn’t know.

I finally made the paper-
It said at six o’clock…
The man would pull his lever-
And I’d take the six-foot drop.

A murderer, unfit to live-
Is what the paper claims…
And what reproach I've brought upon
A decent family’s name…

I grew up poor, but honest-
And dreamed of wealth and fame.
I finally made the paper-
But my name went down in shame.

Slinger~
What a reminder of something a wonderful high school teacher told me -
'Do everything you do today like it was going to make the headlines tomorrow.'

I enjoyed this reminder of what happens
to some .. when it's too late to undo it.

Well, guess most of us make the papers at least twice in our lives, when were born and when we die!  Be nice to be in the headlines for once!
~~nice writing Six-shooter~~
