I Still Love You

I have no “other love” in my life
but you have one in yours.
I can no longer compete,
For I fight an endless battle.
your “other love” has won again.
How it makes my heart ache
to see your”other love”
take you away from me.
You have created a life for us
that has made us prisoners
of lies and emotional pain
living in a charade disillusioned
by the “other love” you have chosen
that now obsess your every waken hour.
I can no longer live like this.
I will not give up on us.
I still have those dreams
we once shared together.
For I Still Love You.

When you are with your “other love”
Do you find them in your thoughts?
Our dreams that we shared
of growing old together.
Now we are only growing apart.
Your “other love” is so so much
a lie, a misconception you fail to see.
For your “other love” controls you,
possesses you like no other will.
Something I could never do.
I tried so many times to understand,
to forgive you endlessly.
I can no longer fool myself
So I leave it up to you.
If you ever give up your “other love”,
I will be waiting here in the wings.
To rebuild our dreams and life.
Others may not understand,
Think that I am a fool.
But after all is said and done
Remember I Still Love You.

Alcoholism is a deadly disease. It is sad that you have given up on yourself and your dreams.  It destroys so many things.
Well on my way to recovery, I will not dessert you my love. When you are willing to seek help I will be there for you.
Fortunately there is a cure for the one affected by it and the ones who are surrounded by it. You can not cure it for the one infected. They have to do that on their own. You can however, be there to support them when they are willing to get help.

Kathy,
Im am sitting here stunned by this...
the depth of your writing, and the emotions and most of all the honesty and courage.
Your last paragraph is full of the most real truths there is about Alcoholism.
Unless a person has lived as one, or lived with and loved someone who is one...
it is hard to understand the devastation this illness/disease brings to all who are effected by it.
thank you for sharing this and for your honesty...only by opening eyes and hearts can we help each other.
stay strong and take care my friend,
you have my respect,
jm

Kit~
This is so touching.
Sometimes, hon ... you have to move on
and take care of YOU !
Looks like you're trying very hard to do that.
I applaud you.
Forgiveness is a wonderful trait to possess.
I'm pleased for you that you are no longer willing to be an 'enabler' to someone else's addiction.
Love and *great BIG HUGS*

This is a wonderful out-pouring of emotions, and so beautifully written KitKat. My heart ached as I watched a sibling blindly live with someone like this for 14 years and am so grateful that she finally understood herself, that she and her children deserved so much more in life.  I'm pleased to say that she moved on and they are now living a much deserved and wonderful life. Unfortunately, he was one who chose not to change and kept his "other love" ... now, that is all he has left.  It's truly a shame when they cannot see beyond the bottle.

Best wishes to you,
/Kit

Very impassioned poem, kitkat.  Very difficult subject matter, as well.

Best of luck to you.

kitkat - this is a very powerful poem, that deals with an important issue.  I have an uncle who is a recovering alcoholic with 15 years sobriety.  Only someone who has seen the effects of alcoholism would understand the difference in him.  When he was drinking, he was a loudmouth who never had a kind thing to say about anyone around him.  And now, he is the nicest guy you will ever meet - always has a ready compliment, and likes to do nice things for others incognito.  It is my sincere hope that the person who inspired this poem will be able to look through the fog and see that your love is truly the better of the two!

This is the most powerful poem I have read in recent memory. . . to forgive and to be willing to wait for someone to go through their own personal trials and be there for them is a trait that I wish more people had. . .

KitKat, my prayers go out to you, for you to have the strength and the power to get through this. . . you can, and I know that the person this is for can do it too, especially with someone like you behind them. . .

Superb writing. . .

Thank-you all for your support. It has been a difficult year for me and I finallky found the strength to say enough is enough. I truly and deeply Love this man but I love myself, no respect myself more. Selfish maybe. But I feel not. This man knows I love him but cannot understand why. I Love him for how he  was and not what he has become. By no means is he cruel or mean to me. But he now understands the pain he creates with his disease and how it sadness me to see him in that state. Say a prayer for him.
Love to you all
Kitkat(kathy)

You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel.~~~ Carol King
