Attempting this may show where madness lay
The tools I use are blunt from much neglect
Yet still it helps to pass the time away
and so somehow makes sense in that respect

To pen this form for some may be no task
with swift pen-strokes they bend their words to will
For me it seems almost too much to ask
could once the path not always be up hill ?

Perhaps reward may come at strifes request
and so bestow a prize the more so sweet
If all that comes before is but a test
must we not strive to feel as if complete ?

And so I'll ask as one not prone to bet
what's here is it what's known as a Sonnet ?

This is definitely a sonnet and a very amusing one at that. I don't think the quatrains are suppossed to be separated but that is really nitpicking isn't it? Nice work.

Ah, Dr. Moose, you've done it! A most delightful sonnet this is! I don't know about others, but writing, no matter the form, is always a struggle for me. The reward is the completion of the poem itself, finally, for me. I love this!

msst, technically a sonnet consists of fourteen lines of ten feet ( three quatrains and a closing couplet) in which an un-accented syllable is followed by an accented one . All this is done using a set rhyme pattern .So just write one and someone will tell you what's wrong with it , nicely of course . Or just check out Nan's class in the forums( she's a good teacher) Oh , and I forgot to mention you introduce a conflict in the opener and try to resolve it in the closing . Now I suppose you'll be posting these things all over the place ?

d, I don't know how you find the time to reply so often , i'm jealous , and appreciative

Marina,
Thank you!
David2,
Pick all you want ! Thanks
'deer
