~  Moonlit Altar  ~

Upon the altar, there she lay
a breathless offering, slow decay
Her heart, nay beating
eyes of tears
She closed her thoughts
& cursed her fears...

Around her, trees stood dark & tall
to witness ghostly, now her fall
Around her hair spilled
like her eyes
Locks of love and
tears of lies...

Nay, she only wanted love -
but she was meant to fly above
In darkened sky
with whippoorwill
and moonlit kisses
born of chill...

Nay, the lords now cursed her breath
and rose to laughter in her death
How she longed to
hold their heart
Alas, her body
torn apart.

Upon the altar, there she lay
She drank of love, and died that day.
Final breath and
none did falter,
Spit upon her
moonlit altar...

Thank you Robert.  If anyone understands, you do.  I am sad and beautiful, aren't I?     j/k

Wow!  That sure was a great poem.     Very sad, but beautiful none the less.  That was by far one of my favorite poems written in a long time.

 It's amazing
How you make your face just like a wall
How you take your heart and turn it off
How I turn my head and you lose it all ...
And it's unnerving
How one move just puts me by myself
There you go just trusting someone else
Now I know I put us both through hell ...
I'm not sayin
That there was nothing wrong
I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me
And I'm not sayin
We ever had the right to hold on
I just didn't wanna let you get away from me.

Powerful Gen,
the sadness just comes from these words. . . the sacrifices that we all make. . .

Excellent. . .

I always seem to find myself looking back upon your work and there I find the finest of writings...and this writing stands as proof that your work is of the highest degree. Well done PFF

Dawn Eclipse - - Thank you.  I don't write "dark" poetry often, as I prefer to look to the brighter side of life, but occasionally I do splurge.  When I do, it feels pretty good.

Ruth - - Even in sadness, one can rejoice.  Always remember that girl.

Janet - - Probably my favorite stanza too.     So glad you're always here girl!

Sven - - True.  Sometimes sacrifices are made & we don't understand what for.  I truly believe that someone higher up is there to "move" us when we head in the wrong direction, and sometimes it's a painful "move", but always for the best.

Walt - - hehe  Glad you were "wowzered"....

serenity - - Lucky for you!  LOL  I've been crossed off the sacrificial list and added to a new one instead...   It never ends...

danny - - *curtsies* and a big thank you!

First Knight - - Wow, quite a compliment sir!  I'm quite honored to know you "look me up"....

Thanks to each and every one!  It's amazing to me how many forks and valleys and hills there are in life, and wow, I'm just about exhausted from the hike!  Which is why I decided to lay down on this here altar....sheesh.  Anyway, thank you all!

Ok Gen, time to get up off that altar and see the gifts that you've really got. . . the sacrifices have been made and it's time to move on. . .

You can do it. . . you've already begun. . .
