Irreplaceable

You came to me in early spring,
A lost and sad abandoned thing.
You were a lean and starving cat.
Choice nibblets soon took care of that.
Your true self emerged quickly and
You showed a preference for canned
Rather than dry food Blackie ate,
If offered on a china plate.

Your hair was long and silky now.
You taught Big Black to scrape and bow.
Your subject made to understand
You were the queen in full command.
You never walked across the floor,
Instead would leap counters before
Landing neatly at your full dish,
Haughtily giving tail a swish.

You challenged everything in sight.
All cats and dogs bewared your might.
Yours were the very sharpest claws.
You liked to show them, just because.
Every chair and sofa was your throne.
My lap was yours and yours alone.
The dining table not exempt.
If you wanted, that's where you slept.

You ruled this place for four short years.
Now Blackie mourns and I'm in tears.
Last night you challenged just once more,
That fast descending garage door.
I found you very much too late.
You died beneath the heavy weight.
Why did this race you wish to choose?
Your little door was there to use.

You're buried in the corner lot.
I am so sorry I forgot
To check your whereabouts before
I sent that monster to the floor.
You purred your way into my heart.
Now my whole world is torn apart.
Another like you I'll not find.
Miss Dinah, my one of a kind.

Thanks Ellie.  Yes I know I was blessed with such personable cat, but I am still in shock.
