Season of the Rose

Within our woods, wild roses grow.
You see the rosebuds start to show
In June and when they fully bloom,
The air smells of their sweet perfume.
While walking there, I watch to see
The bank of pink, where they will be,
Found twining up each nearby tree.

I don't know why they charm me so,
For other flowers that I know,
Are showier and fragrant too,
And yet somehow, they just won't do.
For when I think of flowered springs,
Wild roses are the thought that brings
Delight, above all other things!

Betty Lou, this is delightful. you are such a dear heart....

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Joyce:  Thanks.  We have lots of wild roses here on our place and along the roads. I grew up seeing them in Alberta and have always loved them.

Ah, Betty, so lovely do your words flow, as always...roses do have an enchantment all their own! Hugs, Ellie

Marge:  Thank you!  We are enjoying this time of year as the roses are just now blooming.  Too bad it's such a short season.

My husband and I have been making a point of walking and 2 nights ago, we walked along the Charles River in Boston and there were tons of wild roses. I immediately thought of you and this beautiful poem. At one point a wild bunny scurried under one of bushes!  Hugs, Marti

Marti:  thank you so much for telling me of your experience while walking along the Charles River.  What a beautiful sight it must have been and a bunny to go with it!
