Have you heard the bawl of a mother cow
After the farmer has taken her calf?
It's a mournful sound to this rural child,
Worse than any other again by half.

I was happy to leave all that behind
When I left the home I had always known;
'Til I heard the moan from my mother's throat
As she walked back into her house alone.

The suicide bomber must surely have
A wailing mother whose scream can be heard.
For the Israeli child killed by that bomb,
There's a mother who howls without a word.

Amongst all living and feeling creatures
There's a terrible sound so fierce and wild
That a tender heart can never forget,
The cry of a mother who's lost her child.

Oh Joyce. I have heard that sound. this gave me chills when I read it.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Thank you Pegasus111.  I was a little nervous about posting this, I was afraid it was a bit too much.  But I guess that is what poetry is.  An expression of all the emotions.  Joyce

Indeed it is the ultimate grief, Joyce, as close to unbearable as it could possibly get, I would imagine. Very well expressed.

It is the ultimate grief one can experiance. The world is in such turmoil right now. Much heartache everywhere. Just like the bible tells of the last days... we are there.

Joyce:  You know how to express the feelings a mother feels upon losing a child.
As your title so aptly proclaims, it really is the ultimate grief.

It seems to me this would be such an unbearable pain.  You touched it to the core.

Dearest Joyce; How well I know of which you write and so I share in your pain, having lost my first born at 3 months...all my love to you, dear friend. Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

I am sorry Dear Ellie, if I brought back sad memories, but these screams have to have a voice.  Joyce
