The gossips are working overtime
They're looking for grist for their mill.
They are grasping at fluff and innuendoes
And are coming right in for the kill.

With malice aforethought they're whispering,
"It must be the fault of his wife.
Else how could a young man so handsome,
Have decided to take his own life?"

"I hear she had served him with papers".
Now where did they come up with that?
Just like all of their wild juicy stories,
Someone pulled it right out of her hat.

A young widow hurt beyond measure,
Two children bereft of their dad,
That they are the victims of rumors,
Makes their deep sorrow even more sad.

Her true friends rally around her,
They help her as much as they can
As she struggles to make sense of the actions
Of her sweet melancholy man.

Joyce:  I hope this is not really happening, but I suppose it must be.  How cruel of people to gossip like this and cause so much more suffering than already exists. Excellent poem!

Thank you Betty.  Yes with all of the wonderful kindnesses that have come her way, there are also some barbs.  Love, Joyce

This is a sad commentary on life. Sometimes when there IS no answer, people make things up to find a 'conclusion'. How terribly sad. And it only hurts those left behind to cope with their own unanswered questions.

Joyce, this is sad but oh so true.  I hope it is a lesson learned by me (I don't want to put this on another)to watch what I say and who I say it to.  Why do others know so much more about our business than we do?  God be with the ones hurting anf thank you for your words of wisdom,  ME

Dear Joyce; How sad that there are those who know not compassion and Love! Your dear family are in my prayers...love, Ellie

people that do this live parched and dull lives. They have no business of their own worth talking about so they meddle in the business of others. pitiful.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Very sad, Joyce. My heart goes out to her and her kids. You've expressed the compounded tragedy in this very well.

People will always have their opinions.. and in turn, rumor is born... Only those who've lived the truth can say what was... It's as simple as that... Well said, Joyce..

Yes, there are usually two sides to every story. Most people are easily swayed. Your poem makes a good point to know the facts before forming a conclusion.

Thanks.
