"a simple verse"

crimson hearts and Cupids
surround a simple verse
she read it very slowly
then stuffed it in her purse

she didn’t think he saw her
or the tears welled in her eyes
but he always watches from afar
his "Little Valentine Prize"

he gave it to her years ago
when things were kind of slim
still what a precious gift she had
because it was from him

during all the time she’d been without
his warm, comforting embrace
that old worn card, that simple verse
would help to take its place

for when she read those words of love
inside that Valentine card
she felt his touch come back to her
so deep within her heart

he watches smiling from afar
and knows things could be worse
with no crimson hearts and Cupids
around a simple verse

very well written, Mike. Amazing the little things we cherish above money and expensive possessions. Fame is fleeting but love is forever.
