You sit in judgment of me,
tried and convicted
in your court of opinion,
yet you know nothing about me.

You see only a situation
which you cannot comprehend,
blind to the shame
and the pain I carry every day;
it is a part of me,
like the color of my eyes,
something I cannot change.

Nothing I say can refute your opinion;
I cannot change your inability
to understand anything beyond
the limited perception
of what your eyes see.

So I stand convicted before you,
and my sentence is your derision -
and scorn;
I accept it as I have no choice.

Jonas, I read this kind of shaking
you know?  Because it is true
so many judge us and say they don't,
but they do.  And I feel in a way,
we are all held up for scutiny.
This is a powerful poem in many ways
but I feel there is more anger
there that was not written....

Jonas, convicted by a look!  No way to change the verdict.  Have I done that?  Have you done that?  I am guilty!  Will I try to change?  You bet!  Hurt-y words,  ME

Oh no!  You aren't convicted by them.  The first person to pass judgement is yourself
else they'd never get away with it.  That's what I always told my kids.  Joyce

You are right. Some people are single minded, unable to form an intellectual opinion.

this is so insightful. you have to experience it in order to understand the full impact of it's power to degrade..obviously, you have. well done.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Thank you everyone. I too have been guilty of this sort of thing, but no longer. I see the world differently since being on the receiving end.

Irish Rose - you are right. There is a great deal of anger behind this one. But since this is an open forum I had to be nice

This is great Jonus, powerful and straight to the point.

unfortunately the human race can be like that and I have been a guilty party sadly enough. Thanks for showing it to me.
