First Daffodil

I'm safe within my winter's bed,
With covers piled upon my head,
I sleep and dream, while storms march by
And snow drifts from a leaden sky.
Down here below, I'm not aware
Of what is happening up there,
But yet, one day, I will awake
And know that it is time to take
My journey towards a warming sun,
To find that springtime has begun.
I stretch my arms in gladness where
I don the golden gown I wear.
With frills and greenery in place,
I bring a smile to every face!

Trillium, this is beautiful!  We are in the South now and the flowers are in bloom, but all the years in Michigan, we waited for those green stems and leaves to come through the ground.  And I can't count the times those beautiful flowers bloomed only to have it snow and cover all but the flower.  A sad and great sight all in one.  Great poem.  ME

Dear Betty; I love the imaginative way you have written this lovely poem! This put the magic of Spring into my step! Hugs, Ellie

This is truly lovely Betty.  Next month we will begin to see the bulbs start blooming.  These first signs of spring are so inspiring.  Joyce

Mother_Earth:  Thanks for your nice remarks. I always watch for that first daffodil in bloom.  then I really feel it is spring. Unfortunately we won't see any around here until Late March or April.

ellie:  Is spring any earlier in PA than in north Idaho?? It will be late March before I can hope to see a daffodil.

Joyce:  I know you'll soon see bulbs sprouting and it won't be long until the lovely festival. What a beautiful time of year for you.
