Motionless, I stand looking through the window,
My coffee cup suspended in mid-air.
The seconds turn into minutes and still he waits,
Stone-still, fixated on something there.

Suddenly he leaps, making me jump too,
Cooled coffee spilling down my nightgown.
Triumphantly he turns and heads toward my door.
A mole?  One of those despoilers of my lawn?

I watch him come, his prey hanging from strong jaws,
The head clamped by a single bite.
The body, tail and feet dangling, I see the paws,
And know it's not a mole caught in this plight.

Larger than a house mouse, though it's not a rat.
Carelessly, he drops it by the door.
His catch seems unhurt, immobilized by fear.
I turn away not wanting to see more.

Joyce:  This is so descriptive!  i was right there too!  Reminds me that a few days ago, I was in the gazebo and as I came out a huge eagle swooped over my head, carrying a small rabbit.  It was quite a sight to see.

Thank you, Betty. This was my big kitty, who doesn't exert himself as a rule.  I always tell him he has never done anything bad and I guess he still hasn't, as cruel as this seemed.    Love, Joyce

Feline Hunter,
Through nights of black,
Nothing more graceful,
Than a noble cat.
Great Poem.

I hate it when that happens! But they're only doing what they were created to do, so how can you get mad at them, right?

Oh, boy.....memories!  I was on the potty and my cat brought me a mouse and dropped it right in front of me!  Good thing I was sitting down!  They are so proud of their hunt that they have to share it with their best friend.  Love this,  ME
