Bald Eagles,

Late in the year, we always make
A trip out to the frosty lake,
To watch bald eagles gather there.
These feathered monarchs of the air.
They soar and dive. They often rise
With claws around a piscine prize.
Then off they fly to some tall tree
To dine upon a kokanee.

They are a yearly vistor
And only stay a month or more.
They fascinate us and we stay
Too long into the winter day,
Until the cold seeps through our clothes
And nips our fingers and each nose.
So home we go, until next year
And leave them to their sojourn here!

Wonderful Betty.  I have been looking for the eagles.  They usually stop at my place to watch for ducks or other game this time of year. Joyce

Mike:  Thanks for reading and commenting. It really is a thrilling sight to watch eagles fish.  Too bad they come at the coldest time of the year!!

Joyce:  Thank you!  We don't have nearly as many eagles this year.  Wonder where they are?

Betty; You made this lovely poem come alive! I felt I was there beside you!...wonderful! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Trillium, how wonderful a picture you have painted with your words.  What do the people who live in the cities have to watch?  They miss so very much, don't you think?  ME

Soaring Eagle:  Thanks for finding this poem! I wish you could see these great birds fishing in the lake. I suppose you do, where you are too?
