I remember the snows of my childhood,
Bringing beauty beyond compare.
I've almost forgotten how hard 'twas to breathe
Mouthfuls of that cold, frigid air.
Galoshes and scarves and long johns to don,
Ere Mom let us out to play.
Too bundled to move and still chilled to the bone,
Ten minutes a very long stay.

There were times Dad had to dig tunnels,
To get from the house to the barn,
And then perhaps shovel another,
Before he could make his return.
For three months or more we were housebound.
We longed for the warm summer days.
With spring thaw came the mud and the puddles,
Goodby to the sleds and the sleighs.

So whenever I'm feeling nostalgic
For those beautiful snowfields of old;
I take a deep breath and remember,
I'm also allergic to cold.

Joyce; Ah, the memories of the good old days! This is a lovely poem and reminds me of being a kid again. Hugs, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Joyce:  This brought back so many memories of winter on the farm in Canada.  I remember one winter the men had to climb out of the upstairs windows of the house and dig down to the doors before they could start tunneling.  We had a three day blizzard and the snow drifted unbelievably!  I'm so glad I don't have to go through anything like that now.

it's that deep breath of cold, I know this feeling, I can close my eyes and feel it now, that burning in your chest, but God, it feels so fresh and clean doesn't it?

I really loved reading this, thank you for sharing these memories with us!
