Intruders

It's as if they dropped down from the sky,
But I don't believe peacocks can fly.
What are they doing on my deck?
There are no crumbs for them to peck.

I open the door, they quickly run.
His feathers glisten in the sun.
On my deck he left his calling card,
But he looks pretty in my yard.

He has his mate right by his side
With feathers much more subtly dyed
Than his in a myriad of hues.
How can a welcome I refuse?

I called around the neighborhood.
One friend said that she understood
New people with peacocks in tow
Moved in.I called to let them know

I'm hosting this enchanting pair.
They speak as if they do not care;
Adding pretty is as pretty does.
I am no wiser than I was.

I thought they'd come around that day
To take this pair of birds away.
They haven't come.What will I do,
If I'm compelled to keep these two?

I don't know what a peacock eats,
Nor can I afford to buy their treats.
I'd like to wring their pretty necks
When I see how they've befouled my decks.

They make a sound I've never heard
From any other type of bird.
Is that why my neighbors let them
Run away and don't come get them?

I worry they have chosen my place
To lay some eggs, add to their race.
If two peacocks leave me in a fix
What would I do with five or six?

I ponder if a local zoo
Might be inclined to take these two.
They're very fast, I'll never catch them;
So I guess I'll just sit here and watch them.

Dear Joyce:  Well I hope the rightful owners show up and take these peacocks off your property!  They are beautiful but messy I know. We have neighbors a little ways from us who has them and you really have to be careful where you walk! I have no idea what they feed them! Good Luck!

It's amazing, this is the second story I have heard this week of a pair of peacocks landing in someone's back yard - where the heck are they coming from?  LOL, we pay at the zoo to see them and you lucky Americans, get them landing in your back yard?  I would gladly clean the mess to watch a male strut any day!

Cute poem Joyce.
