Neither of us knows, the puppy or me,
Why you are gone, or where you can be

This creaky old house is just not the same,
The cocker whines softly when I mention your name

Why did you leave us? Was it something I said?
Sometimes he sprawls on your side of the bed

Must be your scent, still lingering there,
His nose on his paws, eyes fixed in a stare

How lonely we are, the puppy and I,
Sometimes at night, both of us cry

We miss you, you see, it’s hard to explain,
We doze in the sunshine and walk in the rain

Do you think of us sometimes, as we think of you?
I wonder about that, as he chews on your shoe

I feed him, I bathe him, it’s just not the same,
It used to be fun, we made it a game

We hope you are safe, in your need to be free,
We kiss you, we miss you, the puppy and me.

pegasus111: I loved the poem and I can relate to your relationship with the puppy. I have always had a dog of one breed or another and they are such an important part of a persons life!

This is so sad... I love animals, and I know that the puppy, although he is sad, is helping the person with his grief (You, if it's nonfiction :P). But I really enjoyed this
