Dear Friend

I wish I had some magic words
To send you on the wings of birds,
To ease your pain and soothe your soul.
To make you feel serene and whole.
So many people feel this way.
The sadness just won't go away
And yet, we need to make a start
At finding solace for each heart.

We need to live two lives it seems.
One that's normal, one that screams
At all the horror, all the grief
Day after day, with no relief.
At anger for the heinous deeds.
Compassion for survivor's needs.
For families and friends who mourn.
For freedom's flag, so sadly torn,
But we have the ability
To mend this flag.  Let terror see
Americans are stronger than
This "honored guest" of Taliban!

I hope it comforts some small way
To know I love you and I pray!
