Christmas in the Northwest

The snowfalls of my childhood
Have melted long ago;
And here in Western Washington
We seldom see the snow.

The starry skies are covered
With clouds portending rain.
It looks like we'll be having
A wet Christmas again.

Rain puddles are reflectors
The same as drifts of snow
And shining back from each of them
The cheery tree lights' glow.

The malls are decorated
And happy voices sing.
It's Christmas in the Northwest
Let all the church bells ring.

We haul out our umbrellas
And pull our slickers on.
We'll dash between the showers
To get our shopping done.

There are Santas on each corner
As perfect gifts we chase.
We sacrifice our coifed hairdos
A smile on every face.

It's Christmas in the Northwest
From mountain top to vale.
The raindrops won't deter us
From one more Christmas sale.

My son is out of the Navy as of 12/23 and as of Christmas Eve I saw him off on the plane heading home to Washington State to live and so, now, after reading your poem, I can certainly understand a bit better his homesickness for the beauty and splendor that Washington has to offer. (Smiles) Beautiful imagery here. Thank you so very much for sharing a bit of Washington with me and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours. -Bob

Dear Joyce,

thank you for sharing your lovely day with us

I especially like this:

There are Santas on each corner
As perfect gifts we chase.
We sacrifice our coifed hairdos
A smile on every face.

Dear Joyce:

I enjoyed your poem.  Reminds me of the years we lived in Seattle!
