(This one's to a special young woman who's had me by the heart strings since December of 2002. Phil Collins' song by the same title inspired this poem.)

Against All Odds

I've no alternative but to tell you.
What for three months made me feel blue.
I thought I could pretend.
But I couldn't, in the end.

For over a year now, I've cared about you.
Yes, it isn't rumor or falsehood, it's true.
You've been with him since June of last year.
And since then I've shed many a hidden tear.

Though this may destroy our friendship.
Though my insides it may rend and rip.
I'll survive it, but I can't move on till I say.
What's inside. Whatever comes my way.

I believe its against all odds.
No matter how much I pray, to any gods.
That you just may feel that way towards me.
They say truth sets you free.

And I've gotta face that you don't feel that way.
And for strength in the face of odds must I pray.
Will my resolve fail me, when I see you again?
I don't want to descend into deep emotional pain.

I cannot let my resolve fail.
Heart must be stout and not a measure frail.
Will you speak to me again? Against all odds.
At least I feel. Against all odds.

Against all odds, I still must stand.
Like the Zealots at Masada, their last stand.
I cannot give in to fear, I must stand fast.
Like the Zealots against the Roman army vast.

I like this with reservations...I think it needs some editing. I will re-visit at some point to give a more detail critique or you can e-mail me if you prefer.

Unrequited love!
How sweet it is that you love this one so,
but if you do not tell her, she will never know.
Your heart seems true, yet torn in two.
Love knows the direction in which to go.

You are a romantic, I love that!   Follow your heart, dear one.  It will guide you.
Shereen.

yet another amazing poem by someone who knows in their heart who they truly love.  yet cannot tell because they already have a love... if only for me life was that simple yet complicated at the same time. you really need to tell how you feel or otherwise you will end up torn apart for the rest of your life wondering why didn't i tell her????? !!!
keep your head high and stay strong.... if she doesnt feel the same then keep moving on...
always here for a chat
