One More Goodbye

I sold a big piece of our past today,
The tractor that you loved so much.
I hope you are not too angry with me,
It's been needing a tender touch.
The young fellow who bought it was happy,
He promised he'd give it good care;
The same as you had in all of those years
Before parking and leaving it there.

To find it's true worth I had it appraised
And he didn't balk at the price.
You must know that I needed the money
To keep this old place looking nice.
The house has a new roof since you left me;
Now the paint is showing some wear.
I really needed the cash that it brought,
To keep this old house in repair.

I know what it is like to be lonely.
The H has been looking forlorn,
Sitting abandoned, almost forgotten
In the vastness of our old barn.
Now that I am renting out the building
The tractor was just in the way.
I know you would never have let it go,
But I sold your loved tractor today.

Very sad.  Did the lover die, or just leave?  I actually hope the latter, because then I can just be mad at him instead of feeling sorrow.  Otherwise, VERY effective.  I loved it.

So many farm wives have to get on
with just this type of living;
disposing to good, kind hands those
things that the husband cared for...

I know.

We just sold one of our tractors, too...

Joyce:  Your husband would be the first to understand your position, I'm sure. He would want you to keep your place looking nice and from the pictures I've seen, it does!
