Side note: I suffer from a mental illness myself and was depressed. I didn't want to talk about it publicly, but since your friend has the need of encouragement, here I will take a stand.

Look Around and You'll See

Breathing underneath
The salty water,
Struggling through
All the coldness.

Then I see...
I see the beautiful sea weeds,
Waving at me...
In encouragement.

Then I see...
A light... from ocean above
A hand handed down to me.
I look and see I'm loved by friends.

What's more my body is pushed
On to shore...
What a great miracle
Done by... our God.

we're behind u all the way! and despite ur problems u still managed to put hope into ur thoughts, which i believe my friend shall find very inspiring. this is going to be thought-provoking for him, but i do very much believe that he'll love it as much as i do! thank u so much dear, we all love u
