The Awakening

It's near a month since Christmas Day,
The gifts have all been stored away.
The fancy paper scattered 'bout,
Has been recycled or thrown out.
I'm feeling sad and lonely for
Christmas and the days before.
There's nothing left to to take away
The dullness of a winter's day.
The red poinsettia, once new,
Has died, but for a leaf or two.

But what is this so green and tall
Upon the table in the hall?
Are you belated Christmas cheer
Or blessing for the brand new year?
I put you in your little pot,
I planted you and then forgot.
You happily began to grow.
And now before I'd time to know
You're sending spears of emerald green
And two fat buds burst on the scene.

They'll shower forth in glorious show,
Excitement once again I'll know.
Who would have thought an orb of brown
Hid such a lavish colored gown.
You open up before my eyes,
With blossom of a super size.
Your beauty makes me want to sing;
You are a grand preview of spring.
You've come to chase away my gloom,
My lovely amaryllis bloom.

Dearest Joyce; How delightful is this poem of hope and beauty! God Bless you! Hugs, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

This is delightful, great read.

Joyce:  I love this poem!  It says everything I've been feeling too, but I don't have an amaryllis to look at. My African violet is getting ready to bloom though!

Joyce, this is so well crafted and the theme oozes hope. lovely...

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
