Here I am once again,
Sitting alone on the park bench,
Remembering my childhood memories.

Although you can't see this park,
You will be able to follow me,
On my journey,
My journey home.

I remember spinning on the roundabout,
Making us all feel dizzy,
The laughter, which I can still hear,
Bringing a tear to my eye.

Then there was the dome,
That sure was a bugger to climb,
But when you reached the top,
You could sit there and look out afar,
Often gazing up to the stars.

Then you look over to the swings,
Remembering how high we used to go,
Higher, higher we all once said,
Then you let go,
Soaring through the sky,
Landing on the grass near by.

Only one thing left,
The mad monkey bars.
Mad as we were,
We swung upside down,
Blood rushing to our heads,
But we never frowned.

Oh look! The two trees are still here,
They used to be our goal posts,
"Hurry up and shoot wee man!!"
Then you hear us roar,
Ready for more goals sir?
Here we go!

Now alone on this park bench,
Looking all around me,
But sad to see,
Only thing left standing,
Are those two trees.

So I walk away,
To make my journey home,
Pass the tunnel,
Where we all once hanged,
Looking closely, you had to smile,
You see your name scrawled over the wall,
With the motto that said..
"1998 was our year!"

Then I move on,
Walking up the hill,
Remembering blading down it,
Scraping my knees along it,
But it sure was fun,
Who could ever forget it?

Then I reach that white door,
Number thirty three,
Staring at it like never before,
Slowly pushing the handle,
In I go..
Glad to have made,
The journey home.

Boy was I glad to find you in here today!!!

I can remember that playground too.  I usually beat my brother and all his friends to the top the that monkey bar that looked kinda like a honeycomb and then there was pretending you were the deep space pilot on the one that looked like a rocket.  PHEW!
You sure stirred up a bunch of memories.... it has been nearly 25 years since I climbed on these although I still like challenging myself to an eyelevel swing with the top bar of the swingset.... That was a lovely escape here.  Oh, and by the way....

Cherish the good memories of the past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. But above all... be kind to yourself today.

This is a real special piece Lonestar.. I love the little things.. memories are great. ^^

"   Oh look! The two trees are still here,

"Hurry up and shoot wee man!!"     "

Putting that wee bit of speech in there really made it, in my opinion..

Oh Lonestar, I can't begin to tell you how this took be back to my own younger days. It also made me feel like I was right there beside you, watching in awe as you remembered. It was indeed a pleasure joining you in your journey home. Passions has been my home for quiet some time now but I have just recently returned but please let me echo the words of Welcome.
Hugs,

Very enjoyable read and nostalgic trip down memory lane. Very identifiable with this reader. After reading this lovely poem, I took a few moments to stop and to do some reminiscing of my own. Not only did I enjoy your journey, I also enjoyed my own! Thank you!
