each morning
you give
so freely
that little smile
which is
so truly
a part of you

already
you know me
and especially
you know
your mamma

at her breast
you look so
"cherubesque"

I wish this world
that seems so new
could know the peace
I see in you

resting
in her arms

I pray
for grace
my blood to flow
that I might live
to watch you grow

Coyote speaks the truth. I wish you long life and peace, and the chance to watch your precious babe grow. My own child is now 15, and I have enjoyed each season that I've been allowed to share with her.
Thanks for a beautiful addition to my library.

Thanks so much for reading everybody.

I am 50, she is 44.

His name is Ian, which means "God's gracious gift".

My fear is that I won't be here for him.
(I'll be 68 when he graduates high school)

But just like him, every day is a blessing, each smile is a precious gift, and the moments are to be cherished one at a time.

yours,
coyote

Beautiful Poem.  I share your sentiment. My son's name is Sean which also means God's precious gift.... he is 12 now and I can still remember the day I gave birth to him.... vividly.  You are so right, I cherish each day I have with him and he certainly has been a gift from above for me.  I know how scary it can be to worry about how the world seems to be going to hell in a handbasket, and wonder what danger each new day might bring. I am 37, and will be 43 when he graduates high school. That does not mean I worry any less about whether I will be there or not.  You could live to 101 and I could be gone tomorrow.  You must take each day as God gives it to you just like the child He found fit to place in your care.  Love God, Cherish your family and enjoy life.

Wishing you all the blessings of this wonderful season for you and your family.

Sherry

Cherish the good memories of the past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. But above all... be kind to yourself today.

Thanks Lynne,
I think at some point all babies resemble the cherubs depicted in Renaissance art, for angels they were, and so shall they be, angels again.

Thanks too Sherry,

Something to be proud of.

…They say that man is mighty,
he rules the land and sea.
He wields the mighty scepter
over lesser powers that be.
But a mightier, a stronger man
from his throne has hurled.
For the hand that rocks the cradle
is the hand that rules the world… {Author unknown to me}

Take care,

Thanks Pardner,
Very true words, Melton.

Some "words of wisdom" from the King:

"There comes a time,
when jewels cease to sparkle,
gold loses its luster,
the throne room
becomes a prison,
and all that is left,
is a father's love
for his child."

My baby is 34 and he has a baby of his own...the cycles of life are so wonderful when repeated in a grandchild.  Your poem of tenderness touched me.
