Contemplating

It is the winter of my life
And I don't need
To plant a seed
Or pluck a weed.

In fall and winter I stay in.
It is too cold,
Jack Frost is bold
And I am old.

There was a time when winter palled,
I longed for spring.
But here's the thing
I've lost my zing.

Now I'm content to rest awhile
To sit and wait,
To contemplate
The world's sad state.

It is your turn, dear younger friends
To face the cold,
Reach for the gold.
You're not yet old.

If I've produced a line or two,
Said something new,
Inspired and true.
'Twill have to do.

Joyce Nov. 13, 02

The winter cold bothers me too. I wonder what age it is, when a person is considered old? I like this poem.

psst...hey, Joyce...Marge said we could all move down to Florida with her so that the cold won't bother us no more! She's so thoughtful, isn't she?! What a sweetheart! My bags are packed! Are you ready?!

This is so sad,Joyce. You can't make me sad like this! This is another one from you that is very eloquent and thought provoking, but,
you know,I think I have to make the same query as Smart Chick.BTW,I hate the cold too...but I think you already knew that .

Your friend,Geoffrey

Please don't be sad Geoffrey.  I have a long way to go before I put a shawl on and sit by the fire.  Love you,  Joyce

There is a lot to be said for the golden years---one learns to savor life and simply be. No driving and striving! I enjoyed this poem and I found that I began to breathe deeper and more slowly as I read on...
