The old man sat with shoulders slumped,
a cold fixed glance in those old eyes,
threadbare clothes, too long worn, and thin,
that one could almost see his skin,

lost deep in thought, he did not see,
a man approach from yonder wood,
quite neatly dressed, a fresh young rook,
he stopped to stare with puzzled look,

good morning, Sir, the young man said,
yes, you Sir, placed upon that rock,
am I not fine to see, so keen,
does not my sight enhance this scene?

deliberately, the old head turned,
to gaze upon this brash young man,
he dressed in clothes of finest hue,
and eyes that shone with icy blue,

indeed the sight is clear enough,
the old man whispered with a shrug,
but truth be known, it’s somewhat short,
of dreams once held of higher thought,

the stars foretold a different fate,
than this sad one you see here now,
take care and mark this vision well,
lest you be trapped inside this spell,

for once this rock was not a rock,
but castle grand upon a hill,
fine servants and a lady there,
with sweetest smile and golden hair,

but greed and envy froze my heart,
to gold and wealth beyond that fare,
now all is lost, gone with the tide,
upon this rock I now abide,

be careful what you aim for son,
enjoy the simpler things of life,
unless of course you wish to be,
an old man on a rock like me.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Sad, but true for many people in retrospect.
I enjoyed the flow, as well.
