The Last Fine Day

One pale rose is blooming still.
One flicker calling from the hill,
To see if there's a chance he'll find
Any others of his kind,
Lingering, although they know,
Very soon now, there'll be snow.

This fine day may be the last
We see, before the icy blast
Of frigid winds assault our place
And on each window leave a trace
Of frosty patterns on the pane,
While singing us a cold refrain!

Now, as I walk neath bare-boned trees,
There is a warning in the breeze.
Though autumn clings to days like this,
She soon responds to winter's kiss.
Succumbing to hibernal charms,
She spends the season, in his arms!

This is lovely Betty.  We are not that far along with our fall.  My Queen Elizabeth rose is ablaze with blossoms still.  Joyce

Hi Joyce:  I still have a Viking Queen climber that is covered with blooms, but for the sake of the poem, I counted only one, pale rose!  It is a gorgeous autumn day here today.

lovely piece. The magic remains...

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
