Reflections of a Farmer's Wife

His is asleep, don't wake him now.
He spent the day behind a plow,
Turning up the rich, dark ground,
Where often, arrow heads are found.
He rises long before it's light
And often works into the night.
There always is so much to do.
I wish we had a man or two
To help us out and ease his load.
It's been a long and weary road
Since the day that we first met.
I know I never will forget
The sudden spark that sprang between
This farming king and country queen!

Life was much easier back then.
The children came; he had a yen
To add more cows and also land,
So each would have his own home stand,
But none of them were meant to be
A keeper of the earth, like he.
It's time to urge him to his bed,
But I'll just cover him instead.
Turn down the light and climb the stairs.
Say my usual evening prayers.
I hear the hall clock's gentle chime
And know we're running out of time!

I love entering the pub every once and again and finding a nice warm pint of your words.

Cool stuff, Tril.

Written by a true farmer's wife.  I remember my daddy.  Early to bed and early to rise.  Love, Joyce
