Winds of Autumn

The summer winds have blown by
And disappeared into the sky,
But lest they leave us all bereft,
They made arrangements as they left,
For autumn winds to take their place
And with their advent, there's no trace
Of warmer days. The air has chilled.
The sugar maple tree is filled
With leaves of glory, orange and red
That twirl and fall to make a bed
Around the bole, where children play
And add their laughter to the day.

Then comes a time, when raked in piles
They're burned and leaf smoke adds it's wiles
To autumn weather.Crickets sing
And every day more birds take wing,
Until we only see the few
Who linger here all winter through.
A melancholy time for me.
I find I always long to be
Someplace else, but I don't know
Just where it is I want to go!
Yet that too passes and I find
The holidays are on my mind.
Though autumn winds bring me unrest,
It is the season I love best!

Oh this is nice but I hope it's not time yet for autumn winds.  We're just having our first hot weather the last few weeks.  Joyce

Marge:  Thanks.  We are having cool, breezy mornings and evenings this past week. Feels much like fall.  Afternoons are still warm however.

Joyce:  Thanks and glad you liked this.  We have had very hot weather all summer and no rain since last June, so the cooler weather is welcome here. Surprising what a difference in weather between your area and mine.

lol..we don't have that problem in Florida this summer. HOT, HUMID, and lots of rain. Fall usually comes in November, sometimes winter doesnt come at all.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111:  Lucky you!  Here we are casting about for a likely source of wood for the winter.  We usually burn 5 or 6 cords and always put in extra just in case!
