To Search for the Rainbow's End

So the days went by
and what was a branch
became a willow
and stars winked out
or became
and who could say
where the rainbow ends
but then the words began
and rolled across the valley

and the snow fell
and the trees lost their leaves
and children caught the magic
and it made so many smiles
that they made more and more
and soon a story was
in tall upright letters
spelling yes
but still no one could say
where the rainbow ends

yes to all the first
and the last words
and in between sighs
the intricate meanings
stories passed
gifts of prophesy and blessing
the guttural love making
and all the stirring cries
and then to sing
with the rhythm of the drum

A word is the first stroke
that begins understanding
it is the picture made perfect
explained in separate voices
it is the poet’s song
pure and vibrant and forever
through the chaos
and the gladness
and so began the search
for the rainbows end

Martie~
Looking out my office window and seeing a rainbow that 'almost' matches the beauty of your poetry.

What a wonderful way to spend a leisurely Wednesday afternoon ...

You amaze me with the beauty of your thoughts - for in them I see the full spectrum of the rainbow's colors.
