Don't Forget Me

I wander down a lonely path
As dust stirs beneath my feet
Searching through the darkest night
For the one I am to meet.

I have wandered down this path before
Many times I know,
And each time I find myself walking here
It seems harder than before.

The soul that I am looking for
Is true and good and kind
But fate has thrown a twist their way,
Fear and doubt cloud their mind.

I feel the pain that radiates
From this lonely broken heart,
And I know that I must find this soul
To give them a fresh new start.

For I will be the strength they need
To conquer all their fears,
And I will be the one true friend
To take away their tears.

I will share all that I can
To help them become strong;
Soon, nurtured by friendship and love,
Once again, they'll stand on their own.

And as they begin a new journey
Full of life and courage and pride,
I stand beside them smiling,
Though in my own heart I cry.

For I feel like I am losing
A fragment of my very own heart;
This friend has become so very dear
Yet their new journey, alone, they must start.

And once again, I find myself
Nearing the path where souls go astray,
But to my friend who begins life anew,
One request - don't forget me, I pray.

ah this is so lovely, and as a young man, I'll bet you repaired broken wings of young birds and rescued cats from trees...

at least, that is how you strike me.

I like this Terry!  No Sir, no way could we forget you!

Terry,

Your words are beautiful and full of encouragement.  How could she ever forget you?  Do not think you need to worry there my friend.  Great writing.

It is so gratifying to be able to help someone, lost, find their way. Through helping others, I believe we help ourselves, at least that has been my experience. Your poem expresses this so eloquently and yes, the fear of being "forgotten" can be very real. Lovely, lovely work, Terry.

I really like this Terry.  I was just thinking this afternoon that I haven't seen you around lately.  So am glad you posted one today.  Every time I read something new from you, you get better and better.  Very well written.

Beautiful message.
You had me anticipating what you were.
I had wrongly guessed you were a prayer.

Oh Terry, I truly loved this one.  Do you ever read a piece and swear the poet was speaking directly to you or feel as if they had been listening to your thoughts and prayers?  Well, this one spoke to me and I really needed this after the day I've had.  So thank you for posting this tonite.  It's an excellent and very touching piece.   < !signature-->

Claire, I am so glad that you enjoyed this one.  I really wasn't sure how everyone would take it, because the mood is a little different from what I usually write.  But I am so glad that you like it!

Thank you, my dear!  I really missed you all for the little while that I was away.  I am taking a programming class in a language that I am not used to for work over the summer, and it really took up my time getting used to the class.  But I think I have everything smoothed out now, so that I won't be gone for quite so long anymore.  Thank you for the lovely comment.  I only hope that I can keep getting "better and better".

Thank you for reading this, my friend.  I am glad you liked it.  No, I am a far cry from a prayer, but I have been told in the past that I have such a knack for being in the right place at the right time, that I may very well be the answer to one.  (Personally, I don't know ...........)

Tennessee Angel~
Thank you for your kind comments, my dear.  Yes, I have had that feeling before.  Every time I feel something strongly or am bothered with thoughts of worry, I can come here, and I find a poem by one of our gifted clan that I could swear was written just for me.  It gives you an incredible feeling, doesn't it?

Terry*
This is absolutely perfect!  The feelings,
the words, the images...all of it flowed down
my face with each tear.  Reaching to someone
in need through your own pain is a beautiful
desire and you penned that desire with grace.
Thank you so much for sharing this heart
touching piece~

Terry--I believe what Claire said is true...what you give of yourself will come around and give back to you...your heart shows so clearly in this lovely poem, and it is a sweet heart.
