Friends,
Way back I had promised a very good friend of mine that I would write a poem on my country, India, the land I have always loved, and today, I am proud to have written something.
How much ever flawed in poetic writing this might be, I am a proud owner of these feelings... I know each one of you have the same feelings for your country the one that you call home...

I hope that you like this one... As always I look forward to your comments and views on this one...
Thanks in advance.

India: My blessed land
---------------------------

India, my country -
Bharat, I call her,
A land of mystery,
My mother is she.

A land of snake charmers,
and tough farmers,
Fishermen in the sea,
Vibrant life I see.

A land of beautiful flowers,
Of coconut palm, rhythms soulful,
A land of three seasons,
Loving her has reasons plentiful.

A land where love stories
are sculptured in stone,
Woven in fabric, coloured
in spectacular shade and tone.

Palaces, in glass and in marble,
coloured pink, red and even gold,
Temples, in awe of Gods in fables
Lovely shrines for eyes to behold.

Deserts, rivers, mountains and plains,
Himalayas up north, oceans down south
Sunny skies, wide horizons, distinct terrains,
A land so fertile, gives food to each mouth.

A land of the banyan tree,
Serene shade of whom sheltered,
Each pilgrim on an Inward journey,
a path to Karma, to set him free.

A land where life is sacred
music is worshipped, art divine,
Birds are love's messengers revered,
Oh, I do love this land of mine.

The glory of my motherland, so great,
The lessons she taught, to be straight,
The need to respect, twin entities
of the cradle and the grave, to be brave,

To pay the highest tribute due
To the Mother and the Teacher
And the martyr and the family, to
love a fellow Indian as my brother.

India, they call her,
Bharat, I know my land so

Beautiful poem!  I was really impressed with the way you talked about your country.  It created a beautiful picture in my mind, and I thank you for sharing it with me.  Wonderful poem.

Sudhir, this is excellent. Not only have you described so many things about your country but your national pride glows in your words. This is excellent, my friend.

As I have said before you are a wonderful writer, and this is another fine example

I have friends that are from India, do you mind if I give them a copy of this poem? I am sure they would love it.

This is a beautiful dedication to your homeland. My friend is from India, and she told me a lot about it. It seems like a beautiful place, and your poem does it justice.

Sudhir, what a beautiful poem, what a beautiful country you describe. The old saying "home is where the heart is" certainly applies to the fine love you have for your country. I really enjoyed the reading of this work because, most don't take enough time to pay homage to the country of their roots.
