Beauty

Beauty is appreciated
An esteem that leads to praise
Praise denotes a worthiness
We pass from age to age

Worth implies a value
Which is measured in the eye
And many eyes together
See a splendor undenied

Splendor undeniable
Yet many times unknown
Many times too trivial
Or tiny to be shown

What’s then of greater splendor,
The planets of the sky
Or geometrics of a snowflake
To a beholders eye

And which is of less beauty
The hillside verdant green
Or leaf of fern well hidden
And never to be seen

The beauty is the greatest
Not of the beautiful
But of the one who feels the glory
Wrought within his soul

The one who finds magnificence
In a springtime bloom
And doesn’t watch, but fully drinks
The wonder to consume

For what is beauty if not meant
To flow within our veins
Be etched within our memories
Or in our hearts contained

The beauty is the beautiful
And beholder both as one
They melt together in the
Golden hues of setting sun

Elizabeth there is only one word for your poem....BEAUTIFUL. an excellent poem as always, wonderfully written.

Baltimore Grotto

"To be nobody-but-yourself-in a world which is doing its best night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."

E.E Cummings.

"We Irish are too poetical to be poets, we are a nation of brilliant failures" Oscar Wilde

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder! You've stated that so wonderfully in this!

Lizzy this is absolutely superb.

For what is beauty if not meant
                                               To flow within our veins
                                             Be etched within our memories
                                               Or in our hearts contained

And I wholeheartedly agree with this verse...

There is excellent meter in your work - (and you know how I am with that! Envying here...)
and the nature and quality...wow, I have missed reading your poems. But hey - uni is out for four weeks - you should see a lot more of me now!
