inheriting children ...

upon this day and upon any
the sun warms our spirit
so through the darkest night
be our embered friend to keep

light of any life be bright
to shine upon sad's dim face
and bring waters of joy
to send wanton thirst away

kind of all kindness to calm
be still in restless sleep
comforts given of a heart's beat
sooth troubled souls who weep

trust in trusting's best friend
to bond sacred ties of loyalty
giving upon gifts unopened
for only joy in not receiving

upon this day and every
pass heart's cheer to many
smile upon the trodden forgotten
upon God's inheriting children

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.

I like your language here...sentiments superbly expressed.
