Distances

Ribbons of rivers and valleys of green
Black curving highways and mountains between
Wetlands and acres of farmland and field
Desolate canyons and cities of steel

Shorelines and inlets and crystalline bays
Verdant hills coated with bluegrass to graze
Beaches and forests and jagged terrain
Storm clouds and blizzards, and wind gusts and rain

Tidal waves, undertows, sounds of the sea
Walls of division between you and me
All of these elements keep us apart
But you couldn’t be closer than here in my heart

Your arms are my blanket, your lips are my wine
Your eyes are the jewels my desires enshrine
Though distance and forces of nature divide
Your love in my heart will forever abide

Liz,

With words like these, it makes me more and more disbelieve that you seriously started writing poetry just a year back...
"Your eyes are the jewels my desires enshrine"
What a lovely thought...

regards, sudhir

Liz

The words flow from your pen so well.  You make me pause and wonder whether I should resort to plagiarism, lol.  This poem is so sweet, and so smooth.  I hope the rivers and mountains between you and your love become much fewer.

Liz, this is a beautiful piece. I love the flow you've achieved with this poem, you have great talent! (As you already know!   )

Those comparisons are so nice-as is the whole poem!

Elizabeth,
If I were he
And you were she
This would be
my answer to
Your epopee.

        The distance

There is a gap on my map
Two inches or three
And I stare and I stare
As it lies on my knee.

An ant could walk it in
A moments blind run.
But he does no know
The journey begun.

For between each point
Lies an ocean of fare
More then trees and valleys
Then the paper declares.

It boggles my mind
The symbols impart.
The two or three inches
Goes straight through my heart.

I would if I could
Fly the distance a start
But my only resort,
Lies here in my art.

May angels surround you
With grace and with care.
Hold you and keep you
Till I can get there.
Love Sy

Kit, Thank you for your beautiful remarks

Sudhir, yes, I started writing a year ago and before that couldn't compose a decent letter. But thanks for your comments

Lng Jhn, Don't worry, you don't need to copy anything. I often think of the wonderful poem you wrote to Lorelie, it was just exquisite. Take care

Sunny, Beth, Cerenity and Butterflies, I believe you are all romantics, and I'm so glad you likes this poem.

Martie, I like your critique (no bias here)

Corinne, Thank you

LOvebug, Another upcoming romantic, I think. Keep up your good work

Elizabeth Your words mean so much

Sy,
You may be right, if you look on a map
An ant walks round the world while your taking a nap
He climbs the Himilayas into Nepal
In 4 seconds ,that is,if he doesn't fall (ouch!)
A simple housefly, on the other hand
Has the entire world at his command
Flying from port to port to port
No valid ID or even passport
Now if I used a map to decifer the risk
The poem above wouldn't even exist
Thanks for your very clever poem

Ethome, Thank you for the very warm compliments

Liz

Liz a truely beautiful sleep, one that will insure that I am kept safely in the arms of sleep dreaming of the images of your poem. I shall sleep in the serenity of your words.
