That time of Year
By Jessica DeMaio
That time of year,
When you miss the people who are no longer here,
People don’t realize,
But the week before,
You cry yourself to sleep,
Your memories are stored within so deep,
Sometimes they fall so deep,
You think they are gone,
Everyday is a battle,
Remembrance of it all,
When the blanket of snow first covers your lawn,
Bells are ringing,
When gifts are opened,
Carols are singing,
It hurts more then the actually pain of knowing that they cant see this beauty,
You imagine them coming through the door,
You look all night,
But they never really do walk through the door,
Only in your mind,
You remember tears you shed on their shoulder,
The gifts you received.
You wish everyone would understand,
There’s no ending to grieve,
What you need on that frigid Christmas Eve,
Are those you have loved,
As the day approaches you feel your pale cheeks covered with tears falling from the lost eyes,
You wonder why other people aren’t sad,
You loved, you cried, you wonder are my tears that painful for others to see?
The day you feel the most emptiness for those who pasted on,
The present you want most,
Is their presence,
Christmas night,
A silent night filled with your cries,
New Years,
Another year to deal with more tears,
New Years is over,
Christmas is over,
Then you ask yourself; will the pain ever be over?

Hey there, great poem, a lot of emotion.  I know the feeling, and I can only hope that the pain will go away, but it won't happen as soon as you would like.  Just keep your head up.

sweetpoet~~~you put in your poem "why arent other people so sad"??? maybe these people are just putting on an act trying not to show what they really feel...i have done that plenty of times before...but when no one would be around it would all get to me...keep up the good work girl!!!

wow...wonderful poem...such emotion you have to deal with at that time of year...well I guess you gotta try and think positivly. pain is part of us no matter where we try and turn, but love surrounds us to and the key to happiness (at least in my little world) is to even them out. To have a bit of each and learn from your good and bad cause that's all that life truely is. Good luck!

Hey...I think I might have this printed out....with your permission, of course.  The idea and thourough expressions of emotion are wonderful.
