10,000 Towels

These are the days of 10,000 towels,
But there’s nobody here but us three.
These are the days of 1,000 plates,
But nobody eats here but me.

These are the days of the 500 sheets,
But no bed has more than two.
These are the days of 200 rugs,
But my house has full carpet through.

These are the days of the vacuum cleaner,
That only fits my hand.
Tho’ I live 200 miles from the beach,
The bag overflows with sand.

My pantry is littered with grocery bags,
And still there is nothing to eat.
And there’s 50 pairs of assorted shoes,
Tho’ rarely seen on feet.

Where does it come from?  I ask in despair,
Yet no one accepts the blame.
I’m not looking to punish, I’ve gone beyond that,
I want to know from whence it came.

Do the house-dirty fairies come in at night,
Do THEY throw all this stuff around?
When they leave, do they take a single sock,
Simply to confound.

Is my auto-washer my only love,
The sweetest sound I hear?
Is my only warmth my clothes dryer,
When I’m folding near?

Is this my given lot in life,
To forever clean this house?
Even if I wanted to,
I’ve not time to find a spouse.

If I give up for just one day,
I’ll be overrun.
Then it will be twice as hard,
Housework ain’t no fun.

Hahaha! How true. Nothing is more boring than housework, though it can be therapeutic too. I am convinced that there is an invisible dust monster in my house that sheds dust wherever it goes.
Your poems are just so good that I can't find adequate words to describe them! You have to be a genius to write an entertaining poem about housework, after all!

Hardrock,

My sentiments exactly!!!  I hate cleaning, but it has to be done.  Nice writing here.  You made me smile with the ending.

Oh geez, that was another good one. I know the sock monster well. He is accompanied by the towel demon, and the dirty dish ghost. Hate em all! They laugh at me regularly.
Amazing the things you can make a poem out of...
