If life began the day we met My beloved, Where have all my years of infancy gone? For I have lain in your arms, since I was reborn; Drinking the nectar from your upturned lips; Reeling, evermore intoxicated with every sip, Into your warm and tender arms, always yielding, And from the harsh world without, my life shielding, Like a mother gently stroking, cradling my head, Against your breast, then tucking me to bed, Lulled into dreams by the beats of your heart, Beating in consonance with mine from the start, As though I had never existed in another time, As though I had been born to revel in the wine Of the ecstasy of your love and all else had been The adulthood that I have never felt or seen, Yes, Infancy followed adulthood when You I met, My beloved. |
