I stood at the peak of Mount Mercy
And looked for the compassion
She proclaimed to possess.

Looked over the jagged edge
So cold, so hard
At the flecks so far below.

Waited, for the mercy
To cloak me
Envelop me (oh so breathless now)

Oh, she promised me!
This Mountain called Mercy
Professed to understand, to care.

Calm, so mute below
The clock is ticking, slowly
And then time stops.

haunting piece loved this one and the ending is quiet intense.

hi taramw, well to this reader, the first part of this poem is dramatic and reminds one of acting classes...its like you wont expect the speaker to do anything rash to herself....

thats why the imapct was doubly strong when i reached the ending..."And then time stops"...gosh,haunting line that will stay with me for a while

i enjoyed

An intense piece, Tara. The ending is particulary effective as it leaves what happens open to interpretation.

I agree with Lotharingia....it's that open interpretation at the end that clinches it.  Nice work.  Hardrock

Same here, Tara, beautiful poem, and gives you pause at the end. Take care.
