Why do you listen to
That Antique Music
The young boy asks..

I smile..and then I say
"Crimson and Clover"
over and over
Takes me back to yesterday

When lyrics moved
My energy
Heartache was just
A song

Jim Croce could
"Save Time In A Bottle"
And I would sing with him
All night long

The Beatles spoke of
"Yesterday"
Chubby Checker did
"The Twist"

To hear Patsy Cline do
"Crazy"
I never could resist

Id settle in my basement
Put on an old LP
Sing into my home-made
microphone
Where no-one else could see

Elvis was my fantasy
Oh how he could shake
"One Night With You"
"Heartbreak Hotel"
Was more than I could take

So if you ask that question
Its very plain to see
To "Color My World"
With Oldies
Brings happiness to me

You got it Deborah, and don't forget "I'm a Believer" and "I think We're Alone Now". Or on the other end of the spectrum..."Whole
Lotta love" and "No Time"

Challenge to you all, who knows what bands those were?
Damn, I'm old..LOL

Love the poem Deb, in all ways.

Although I'm not a fan of oldies, I like this poem a lot. It has a ring of nostalgia for youth, and I love the lines:
Why do you listen to
That Antique Music
The young boy asks..

"antique" haha!

What a walk down memory lane!!  I wonder though...will one of my great grandchildren come up to me and ask, "Why do you still listen to NIN, Green Day, BHS, Tool, Black Sabbath, Grandpa?"  And I'll respond, "Because you have to listen to ALL the music...not just that sung by angels"  Great stuff, as usual Deb.   Hardrock

~Deborah,...this is so neat.  Ok,...Crimson and Clover, Save Time in a Bottle, no idea who sings these but do recognize the songs,...and could only sing the titles,...no clue how the rest goes.  Now I dig the Beatles so right on for that one. haha.....No this poem is awesome.  Patsy Cline, Chubby Checker, and Elvis....hehe this is quite a poem.  I love this line here,...When lyrics moved My energy Heartache was just A song.  Love that.  Very neat post. *Peace.
