Sufferance

Let your eyes fall upon me, this wretched soul am I
And cry your tears of sorrow, for no life resides in me.
A shell of hollow crisis, and a mind molded with pain
I was once a spirit of good fortune, fallen by no sword;
But ‘twas grief that took me in its grip and squeezed
My life out of my very being, and left me to rot
Within bitter memories and the sweetest of dreams
No survivor was I, instead I wilted like the rose
Bade the light good-bye and vowed my soul to sleep.

Beyond the grave I am a witness to the age of tomorrow
And I see you there, standing over me, watching tearfully.
Eternal light flares against the night, thankful am I for that
Your voice is like a church bell, and I hear it, yes I do!
The softest of breezes reaches out to you, it is my hand
That touches your face, across your cheek, pale and soft
No prayers shall you speak for me, I left your god long ago
But spy with quiet awe, for you thought you once knew me
And you did, but not as well as I knew you.

Let your eyes fall upon me, this wretched soul am I
And cry no more tears of regret, for no life resides in me.
I am but a shell sitting here, outside the grave I know
My spirit wallows in the pit of grief, no escaping I drown;
‘Twas grief that took me in its grip, taloned claw and squeezed
With bitter memories and the sweetest of dreams I rot
Until I can lay my head upon the stone and bid the light goodbye
No survivor am I,  instead I wilt like the rose
A rose no garden could keep.

Hi, welcome to Passions, and thanks for your comments on my poem, also.
This poem is very powerful, very sad, and feels like it could say many things. Aswesome first post. (I love your screen name, too)

Yikes, I felt as if this was a suicide note which would have been written around 1620 or so    I was sooo caught up in this work.  It was great reading.  It was dark, meaningful, and depressing...I hope indeed you aren't this person right now.  I look forward to reading more!

i think I will save this in my library. i feel this is so much a part of my  life right now. Each time i read it i either want to scream that  someone knows how i feel or cry from the pain of it all.
