What do you do when you're fifteen years old
and the boy that you love knocks you out cold
then leaves you?

What do you do when you've turned seventeen
not in the running for homecoming queen,
instead you're with child?

What do you do when after a fight
you go back to make it alright
and find he's dead.

What if police tell you he died
by the needle crucified
and he meant it?

What if  his mother fights with her power
to take the possessions, that make mem'ries flower
and leaves you bereft?

What if the courts won't allow you his name
so that the child you bear has the emblem of shame
for the love you had?

What if at eighteen you share love again
only to find he has secret pain
that he won't share?

What if at nineteen he too dies.
and you find no peace in platitudes, lies
so you go on alone?

What if the things that you hold dear
are also the things, which cause shedding tears
to touch your heart?

What if your family won't understand
the need for true love in the hand of a man
to make you whole?

What if each lover turns out to be
looking for a mother and not seeing thee
as you blend in?

What if alone you're destined to be
sharing your life, your mystery
with only your son?

How do you cope, manage each day
when you've lost hope, it's drifted away
but still there's desire?

Powerful emotions well expressed. The questions may change but the answers are always difficult to find, but that doesn't mean you should stop looking!

To Deborah1-thanks so much for your kind thoughts.

ToDJLI-yes sometimes I have so much emotional junk thrown at me I have to have a peotry garage sale. Thanks for allowing me to do that at Passions.

To EagleOne- Yes the questions do change and sometimes by the time we've found the answers we've moved on but the journey is awlays interesting.

Be well everyone

Wow, this is a really fantastic piece with many questions we should all think about.
I DO hope it isn't about you, though!

Thanks Lotharingia, No it isn't about me it's about my daughter who seems to be getting her life back together, with the help of my beautiful grandson.
Be well

Kethry, we should talk about our daughters, what a tough journey they have, and it hurts as though it was our own, doesn't it? Very expresive piece.

I don't have a daughter. In fact I am one myself, and still young. I'm not comparing myself to your daughter, but I have many trials and such that haven't been fair for a 17 year old, I understand pain, and usually men, and the fact that we're too trusting is our downfall.
Good work!- Jenn

Kethry...this is simply stunning.  A lifetime displayed right here, for all to see.  The content is like a bad dream, but the poem is beyond words.  You have outdone yourself here.  Hardrock

So many obsticles and suffering.
Hope the next 100 years is better...James
