Sorrow’s Window

Silence rests amid thunder's rage
and settles into memory's storm tossed night.
A gentle smile belies true emotion.
Am I happy?  No, not at all.
But you shall not see me cry.
I vowed pain's acquaintance not to make,
yet regret's dishonour knocks
on the door you so quickly closed.
With a simple drop of hand our journey began
along the path paved with passion now grown cold.
You forged a trail through innocent imaginings
then followed the signs as the detour
of intellect beckoned you forward.
Reality's hold slipped from our grasp,
leaving shadows of despair on your face.
Warm tears wash away our last innocent hope.
Weeds and thorns take root
and in earnest reach for our sun.
Gone is the tenderness of youth's quiet haven
from the bed where we learned to laugh and play.
Time heals, I hear, and though I doubted it true,
when your eyes now meet mine
and your touch I try to I remember,
I have to look away and admit it.
With a long held breath given dark freedom,
the single flame
in sorrow's window
flickers out.

Perfect portrayal of love faded away. Tragic isn't it? Amazingly beautiful poem.

Thank you, Cat. More than any, this one marked a bit of a turning point. Tragic, yes, but a chance to look beyond. The trick is not to shy from chance...

Still learning,

~Evan, Evan, Evan,...*sigh* how did you do that so soft and gently? This is sad and at the same time beautifully written,...but also good to know that now,...with this,..the motion is only forward. I'm a fan for sure. Take care E. *Peace.

Linda, thank you, and Yes, t'was a turning point. The sky has far more golden sunshine than cloud gray anymore.

SpitFire, yes, it was sad. That's where I wrote it from. For a spitfire, that was awfully soft spoken and sweet!

Kethry, I've found that most anything I tackle with a pen is more in perspective after wrestled with on a page rather than simply in my head.

Thank you all for the gentle encouragement.

Loved it.  The candle in the window did it for me...flickering of hope, gone...sad, and beautiful...

Serenity, I guess we should always have a candle in the window, but it isn't always easy.

Isis, always a flicker of hope? Yes, must be...

Thank you ladies for the kind words.
