In the ever-dark circl'ing of night upon night
And the dream that remembers the day
I search for the solace that quiets my soul
And the light that shows me the way

I find no relief from the candle that burns
Or the alchahol lamp I consume
Whose wick is the cigarette I set alight
Whose cancerous kiss I resume

The bonfire burns in the lonliest fields
Its warmth too intense to approach
The forest it begs me to set it alight
But who am I to encroach

The stars are too many miles away
To feel the warmth of their light
Yet always they hang in the heavens above
And mock me all through the night

I long for the warmth of a quiet embrace
The gentlest touch of a kiss
Love is the light to quiet my soul
I long for only this

That was very beautifully written - and as Spitfire said - flowing like the water of a serenely flowing river

Thank you all for your kind words. I am deeply flattered by your support for my writing. I know I don't respond to all that many poems but I often find it hard to find the right words. Thank you again.
