A peice of paper
crisp and new
waiting to be used
wanting to be important
perhaps as a document
legal and binding
laminated and kept for reference
or as a child's drawing
innocent and bright
treasured by the receiver
as a reminder of youth
maybe as a page of a great novel
belonging to a story
written by an aspiring James Joyce
and fondly refered to
as a first attempt at fame
but most of all
a love letter
scribbled with passion
stained by tears
scented with perfume
tucked away in a secret place
reread over and over
each time rekindling a flame
instead
it is used for the disposal
of a piece of gum
stale and overchewed
it is crumbled up
and thrown away

WELCOME TO PASSIONS
This place is great, I too am a 'rookie' here as I joined about 6-7 days ago.  I like your poem a lot b/c it makes one think about how one single sheet of paper could be the outlet of one's soul.  However, we use it for miscellaneous purposes, such as throwing away gum ...lol as you said.  I like this poem a lot and I hope you'll like here in Passions

Thank you JnR.  I like the meaning you got from my piece, although slighty different than my own. Thats what poems are all about, right? The way the reader relates to them.  Thank you for your comments.  I loved your point of view.

Hugs and Kisses,
Paula
