Darkness Descended

Gasping,
clutching,
straining to pull myself
from the terrifying
realism
of my dreams,
I struggled to the surface
splashing,
and kicking,
only to find,
as I slowly sank,
I really was…
drowning,
and I held my breathe,
sinking…
sinking,
letting the air go
slowly…
slowly,
bubbles
rising past my eyes,
gasping again,
choking hard,
the pain…
the pain
was gone
as I sank
in a euphoric state,
needing air
no more…
no more,
and then,
as things grew dimmer,
darkness descended.

The imagery in this one was great.  What a horrible thought, but awesome poem

Appreciate it lakewalker...neat name by the way...almost went that way once...still remember the resignation when I realized that it was gonna happen no matter what I did...then I touched the bottom of the bathtub!  MAN WAS I RELIEVED!

All kidding aside, did almost happen in Hawaii, and I remember it well.

Your presentation is perfect for the content of this piece...very effective and expressive writing.

I think we need to start a nightmare's anonymous...next meeting at my place...A sleep-over, lol, we can all get together and horrify each other...

but actually, j--being a vet of the sleep war, I must say, you described this almost too perfectly!  Well done.
