     “IN LOVE WITH A MERMAID”

I was walking along the beach that day,
those ocean waves were crashing down.
Something in the water caught my eye,
you’ll never believe what I just found.

I thought I saw a mermaid lying there,
eyes closed, as if in a peaceful sleep.
She had a flipper where her legs should be,
and I asked myself, “Was this my destiny from the deep?”

I picked her up, and carried her home,
and I placed her in my great big bed.
Lord, she was so very beautiful,
I was in love, “Yup, that’s what I said!”

OK.., so I fell in love with a mermaid,
only she didn’t quite know it yet!
I knew I would tell her eventually,
but what the heck, we hadn’t even met!

She had long blonde hair, yellow like the sun,
and skin so soft, just like a mermaid should.
I wondered to myself what might happen,
when her eyes opened, if only they would.

And then, as I stared, open they did,
you would not believe what I could see.
The color of her eyes were lily-white,
but I didn’t care, as it didn’t matter to me!

She stared at me, and I stared at her,
and our hearts heard each other’s plea.
We both knew from that moment on,
that she was also in love with me.

So you see, as I weave this impossible tale,
and as you read it, you may think me not too sane.
But that mermaid did capture my heart,
and today, we have all these lovely kids to maintain!

Bill do you keep the kids in an aquarium or do they go to school with webbed hands and feet? God the messes you get into over love, but what would life be without it? Love is love and this is a cute imaginative poem I really enjoyed reading it!

Hi ethome,
Actually, I have to keep them in this giant aquarium, but they have normal hands and feet!

Love is a funny thing, and if you would have only seen this mermaid!!! Whoa!!

I'm really glad that you enjoyed it, as I needed to write a little something with humor at the time.

Hi Bill....
           This was great!!!!! But one
       question.......
"Who do your kids take after?"

          Ahhhhhhhh....it feels good to let
loose with a good laugh now and then!

            Thank you...I needed that!!!!

I have but one goal in
life.........
To make you smile!

Bill--you just shot my vision of reality and fantasy all to heck....LOL.  I guess I will have to rethink the possibilities.  Wonderful tale of love and very amusing as well as sweet....I hope your mermaid appreciates you as much as you appreciate her.

Bill

Very amusing poem.  Little does everybody know that you have them tucked away on a little island and you go there to see them on weekends.

I enjoyed this lots! I, too, am fascinated by mermaids! I have written a number of poems about them, and even one prose  . Have you ever seen the painting by John William Waterhouse of a mermaid? She is very beautiful!   I have her posted with my mermaid poem, somewhere in the archives here.
I look forward to reading more from you Bill, this was great!

I think mermaids are just beautiful, after all I did find one!! Thanks for coming by and sharing your kind comments. By the way, I might not have clicked the right window, so if you check and it didn't work, send another request. thanks.

Oh Paula...I did let the mermaid out of the bag, I mean ocean, didn't I. I do apologize, and thank you for being so kind with your comments.
