If I were going to need you, I wouldn't instead, I'd remind my heart of all the broken promises and things left to falter If I were going to need you, I wouldn't I'd invoke the power of love unattended drowning in the quagmire of seasonal somewhat alone If I were going to need you, I wouldn't I'd make you tell my heart why it's shuttered and dark now for you built the shutters with your own hands If I were going to need you, I wouldn't especially now, when the nights are cooler and my bed so empty would I trade a night for a life? If I were going to need you, I wouldn't I wouldn't fall for your promises one more time, now or ever I'd laugh and just walk away I wouldn't need you, even if I was going to |

Oh Heather ... there's such strength and power through these lines. Like a mantra, if we will it, so it shall be. Powerfully written, and with such conviction, well done! Best wishes, /Kit |

In my lifetime - I've been married twice - (at the moment still with #2), known and loved women who've "made the same mistake 2-3 times" and the consensus is most would not make it again. With me - hope springs eternal - I've seen some wonderful marriages - so - my thinking remains as it always has - lovers are meant to be couples - This is not to say I do not understand your thinking and your feelings - Give yourself time - we're not all *******s, as all women are not *****es. Kit~ thanks sweetie Wilfred~ this was aimed directly at my ex, not at men in general. Though I must say I look at all of your species with a cautious eye now. Once burned twice shy and all that rubbish...yanno Thanks for the reply, and with me hope springs eternal too, it will just take time for me to realise that I can trust someone again. ~Heather |

I know many people who do trade that night for a life... forgetting that the loneliness will be worse when they're still "alone" mentally and emotionally... even if the bed is warmer. *S* You owe yourself more than that... and this poem says you know it! *S* Well done! |

Heather, well said and well done. The charm makes it hard sometimes not to go back, but in the end you do what you think right. Take care. Dee |

Greener pastures and all that, my friend...once burned, twice shy is a fable made by people who believe in it...ya got to keep looking to find Mr./Mrs. Right...can't ever give up...love's too wonderful. Nicely said and done...enjoyed...jwesley [This message has been edited by jwesley (edited 09-20-2000).] |

X Angel, Way to go!!! I see such strength and conviction here. Good for you, girl!!! Looks to me like you don't need him at all!! Great writing!! Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Suthern~ thanks girl! It is tough at times, but the end result is worth all the crap I gotta go through right now. Kethry~ thanks for the boost! This was full of a kind of sad strength. It teaches a lesson and seems to set someone straight. Challenge well met. |
